IPA: /ˈdɪpləˌpɒd/
KK: /ˈdɪpləˌpɒd/
A type of arthropod that has a long, segmented body with two pairs of legs on each segment, commonly known as a millipede.
The diplopod crawled slowly across the forest floor, its many legs moving in unison.
Diplopod is formed from "diplos" (from Greek, meaning double) and "pous" (from Greek, meaning foot). The word refers to creatures that have two pairs of legs per body segment, hence the name double-footed.
Think of 'double' ('diplos') to remember that 'diplopod' refers to creatures with two pairs of legs.
