IPA: /ˌdɛrəˈprɛʃən/
KK: /dɛrɪˈprɛʃən/
The process of removing or reducing the effect of a repressor gene, allowing for the expression of certain genes that were previously suppressed.
The derepression of the gene allowed the plant to grow more rapidly in response to sunlight.
Derepression → It is formed from "de-" (meaning down or away) and "repression" (from Latin "reprimere", meaning to press back). The word refers to the act of removing or alleviating the act of pressing down or suppressing something.
Think of 'removing' ('de-') the act of 'pressing down' ('repression') — that's what derepression means.
